Renewal, Equality and Ambition - small words, big intentions

Well, what an exciting and humbling few weeks it has been for me. Not only was I re-elected by my local constituents, but my party colleagues also put their trust in me to take over from my good friend, David Finch, as their nomination for Leader of the County Council.

With a talented cabinet brimming with new ideas, enthusiasm and energy featuring many new faces as well as experienced former members by my side, we will bring positive change to Essex.

Over the next four years I want to make our beautiful county an even happier, wealthier, and healthier place in which to grow up, grow old, live, work and visit. To do this, we will live and breathe three key principals in everything we do - Renewal, Equality and Ambition.

As we emerge from the pandemic, renewal means we must do we all we can to help rebuild our economy, develop future skills, encourage training and promote tourism and arts, leading to new jobs.

Equality of opportunity means helping people to succeed, to receive an excellent education and to feel safe to be on our streets. It means high standards in social care of adults, children and vulnerable people. We will invest in mental health care to ensure that mental health is no barrier to a successful career or job.

We want to offer the best services and value-for-money to residents and as Leader, I want to reach for the stars. I want to take ECC to the top and be the best County Council in the country, and I have no doubt that together, we can achieve this.
